At Digby Wells Environmental, we’re not just passionate about our work – we’re driven by a mission to create sustainable solutions that protect our planet for future generations.  We are seeking someone who will be responsible for providing key data management services on projects, this involves collection, collation, quality control, management and reporting of scientific datasets collected from environmental and social surveys. The successful candidate will be required to work in close collaboration with specialists from other disciplines. In addition to this, the individual will be required to lead a team of specialists, grow the business and develop new services for the department.  The Geospatial, Atmospheric and Noise Sciences Division runs three departments that are responsible for workflows, namely, GIS & Remote Sensing, Data Management and Geospatial Modelling.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Management
● Design and implement systems for conducting quality assurance and control on data collected through surveys and other data collection processes.
● In conjunction with our IT department as well as clients, identify and design data storage capability and data security protocols for large environmental and social projects.
● Assist the environmental and social specialists to extract, report on and analyse data.
● Train environmental and social specialists and survey enumerators on the use of data collection tools applicable to projects.
● Development and maintenance of relational databases and other means of storing large datasets comprising various types of data (text, numeric, photographic, spatial, etc.).
● Identify, design, implement survey and other data collection processes on projects.
● Provide environmental and social technical input on projects.
● Working in close collaboration with specialists from other disciplines.
● Project managing and administrating projects, where required.

Team Management
● Facilitate the appropriate onboarding process for all new employees.
● Contribute to the performance management and probation processes for the team.
● Provide mentorship to and development of the team.
● Report on team’s performance at various levels. 
● Assist with workload and resource management for the team.
● Ensure that the team achieves revenue targets and growth objectives.

Business Development and Marketing
● Identifying business opportunities and ensure that a client centric approach is maintained at all times.
● Identify leads and organise, plan and track proposals in response.
● Develop and maintain client relationships.
● Co-ordinate and submit proposals.

Skills and Experience:

● Five or more years’ experience in the relevant field, preferably within the consulting environment would be beneficial.
● Experience with database structures (geodatabase, MS Access, SQL) would be beneficial as well as proficiency in MS Excel.
● Experience in Environmental modelling using data.
● Project management experience.
● Strong knowledge of latest technology and tools used in survey and other data collection processes (Tablets, GPS, Survey Applications and Other).
● Ability to design the data management aspects of environmental and socio-economic field surveys to high scientific standards.
● Strong knowledge of various database tools and the application thereof (MS access, SQL etc.).
● Experience with survey and data capturing/ management applications such as Open Data Kit, Survey Monkey, etc.
● Experience of geographic information systems (GIS) and management of spatial data is beneficial.
● Familiarity with descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, including sample design for surveys.

Qualifications:
● Post graduate degree in Environmental, Scientific, Engineering or Social Science fields.
● Certificate or similar in data management / analytics.
